Story I:
Art & Meditation Workshop for Laurie.
Laurie invited me to her art & meditation workshop at Hampstead Heath, to gently and non-obtrusively document the experience. It was important for my presence to be soft, since the nature of the workshop was tender and the participants were encouraged to be perceptive to their surroundings. Here is a selection of some of the images that emerged :
NGO Sampark in India invited me to create photo stories on their efforts to empower socio-economically disadvantaged women in rural Varanasi . The women I met are trained to run their own micro-financing self help groups, and manage their accounts to foster their independence from dependency on men. They are encouraged to be more confident, mobile, and to attend trainings on a variety of topics such as health and hygiene, leadership and gender, as well as taught skills to enter the workforce of their preference. Through time spent together, conversations & connection, I was able to document a few of their stories to help support funding towards their needs.
